Description
This park was named Riley Leroy Pitts Park by proclamation of the city council in 1975. Since that time the park has been an important gathering place for the neighborhood and was the site of Clara Luper’s annual Freedom Fiesta commemorating the civil rights sit-ins in Oklahoma City for many years.Get to know Riley Leroy Pitts Park
Captain Pitts’ sacrifice is remembered in the name of a military post and a street name in Germany, a facility at Fort Sill, and the veteran student center at his alma mater, Wichita State, where a therapy dog named Riley works with veterans.
